March sits at the end of the cooler, wetter half of the Athenian year: a jacket and a light raincoat are worth packing, and the evenings are markedly cooler than the afternoons. The conference district
The venue stands in Kolonaki, which the City of Athens describes as an upmarket neighbourhood on the slopes of Lycabettus, full of boutiques, cafés, restaurants and townhouses, with Kolonaki Square as its centre of gravity. Behind the avenue the streets climb towards the hill; in front of it run the museums.
Syntagma Square, the Parliament and the National Garden lie to the west, one metro stop or a walk of about a quarter of an hour. The Acropolis and the Plaka district are further west again.
